Mages are any who innately has or can access magic. They are treated differently in every culture and especially in regards to what they are capable.
Elemental Mages
The Elves are very accepting of their mages; magic is just another aspect of their lives. Elemental mages fit into a wide variety of roles in society, though percentage-wise, mages don't even make up 25% of the total population.
There are a series of traditional roles that the Elementalists fulfill for society.

There are also some battle mages, and dragonrider mages. These two categories tend to fall under the military and the Lancers, respectively.
Magery, like everything else in elven society, is well-protected and well-regulated. They are subject to the laws just like everyone else. Deviants are dealt with quite harshly, encouraging others to fall in line as well.
Arcane Mages
Not as openly accepted, most human mages tend to keep their powers hidden so that they might direct those around them without interference by those who would deem themselves more powerful. As such, the Archaists rarely take jobs that would display their powers overtly. They're not above, however, using their powers to further their ambitions or just to better themselves
